Doesn't look as cool as mine, but perhaps it will work even better, i did not try this one yet! I did a test on my work machine with topdesk. i have a triplehead2go from matrox which allows me to have 3 monitors on one videocard output so in total i have four and it even worked on that with photoshop, 3ds max autocad and a browser open! see attachment

For a long time i was looking for a decent virtual desktop application.

This is a program that allows you to have more than one desktop on your computer. imagine having your browser on desktop one and your email client on desktop 2 and photoshop on desktop 3. you now have 3 clean desktops without multiple screens overlapping each other.

There are many virtual desktop clients but none i tested so far (quite a few!) played nice with photoshop or 3ds max. The one i found today does not only play nice with those apps but also looks kick ass. It is obviously taken from the linux folks as i´ve seen exactly this at Lex place for quite some years now. But finally i can use it too!

Hello guys! Long time no post from me. I hope you are all well.

I'm almost done with my first (Intro) digital media class and I've had to hunt down some resources. I thought I'd pass on some sound recourses here.

For brief sound samples I particularly like http://www.soundsnap.com/browse. They have nice sounds to use for creating button roll overs and that sort of thing. It's kind of fun just poking around and seeing what they had thought to create.

And as always, one of my favorites for music is found as a collection of links on Creative Commons. http://creativecommons.org/audio

Lex: RE: Pixelmator: affordable Photoshop alternative for OSX

It handles suprisingly well. Of course the layout's (a bit) different than Photoshop and the options aren't as extensive, but I felt more at home on it than I usually do with The Gimp. The only things I miss are all the "export for web" options PS provides.

Since you're a poweruser I don't know if I would recommend it to you, but for someone like me who basically only designs websites it more than suits the job.

Yes our images and textures are truly totally free.
Even if you are going to use them commercially.
You don't even have to credit us, only if you want to.

Just one restriction (but I'm sure this is not for you); don't start an image*after like website with our images in it.

There will be major upgrades to the site at the end of this year/beginning of next year. Terms of use in several languages is certainly a service to consider. Thanx!

I would like to have some further informations about your terms of use� As I don�t understand very well English, I wouldn�t like to make a mistake� You specify that all the textures on your website are free ? Are they really ? Because sometimes, on some websites, that is written that they are free and after� we learn that all the textures are not really free in fact, etc� If so, what can I do with them ? Do I have the right to download them, to modify them (to change the colour, put a texture on them, etc�) and for example, to upload the result (the final picture) modified on a blog or a website like Ipernity or Flickr, etc� (I suppose you know these famous websites ?). Of course, that would be only for my pleasure (to share with the other members)... I don�t "make money" with them (not commercial if you prefer). I want to be sure that I have the right to do that ? ? ?

And if I use these kind of « textures » (this one : http://www.imageafter.com/image.php?image=b17maartent721.jpg
or this other one : http://www.imageafter.com/image.php?image=b19nature_trees002.jpg� found on your website for example), I would like to know if they are free too ? How does in handle? i mean could a photoshopper feel at home in it? My attempts to move to another graphics suite always fail when i realize how much I am used to the shortcuts of photoshop. its a silly thing when you think about it but it completely cripples my shopping experience.

When Adobe decides to lower its prices and not cut any features in the attempt i would be sooo glad to buy a few copies for my home use.

Pixelmator is an image manipulation programme for OSX. It's not the powerhouse that Photoshop is, but it still packs an awfully large number of features for only $59 / 40 EUR.

The layout is very similar to Photoshop / The GIMP and it supports practically all the file formats you can throw at it. It is specifically optimized for OSX, so you can script it with Automator and integrates nicely with iPhoto.
